“Come in from the outside world & get cozy. Enjoy your fresh cuppa whilst I read you a poem…”

Armed with a Fisher Price tape recorder
Articles by me and my cousin’s made to order
Making up funny reports of the news all silly
‘Telling’ the weather, and giggling willy nilly!
I was on ‘free reading’ early on you see
Thanks to the texts my Mum bought me
Then a teacher asked that I read to my classmates
Long before I was old enough to hark Yeats

Then later, I became a school play narrator
For any prose or script I could cater
However, I wasn’t keen on being seen,
So once, I was a time travelling machine!
A turning point was prescribed Shakespeare
Ancient, unfamiliar and dry; easy to fear
However, reading aloud removed such shroud
And before I knew it, I proudly understood it

The same came, studying the South; deep and dense
Slavery and slaughter and Southern American accents
A more serious tone, alone I would convey the text’s backbone
Honouring the content with an attempt at real life torment
But I was young back then and couldn’t afford the tools
So I parked my dream and instead played by society’s rules
I worked as a barmaid, a hotspotter, a trainer, a BA
Until I’d had enough chasing and decided to fly away

I loved bringing fullness to any kind of book
Speaking out aloud, while my boyfriend would cook
Of course once I was eating, I had to stop bleating
But I knew, what I wanted to do, every text a challenge anew
Along came meditation, goodness that exciting and tingly sensation!
Compelled me to further this amongst friendly conversation
For my friends, I read chapters of a former monk’s life story
Recorded through a social media group we called ‘ Truly Jackanory’

Finally, my Grandma began to travel life beyond,
A piece of my soul awakened because of our bond,
In writing and reading a poem for family and for her,
This is how an ending became a beginning as it were,
Reviewing her advice, her words and loving shine,
I knew it was the right time to follow and to find
The dream to speak all these words in my mind
With ideas to express and memories to confess

With narrative to read, I’m hoping we’ll plant a seed
So let me share your truth or story
In any venture, rhyme or glory
My voice will be yours, Truly
What’s Truly.fm?
OK – so I’m a VO (Voice over) artist / actor / narrator / poet…. essentially someone who uses their voice to create sound, which can be used in almost any way – radio, presentations, trailers, audiobooks, meditation, poetry, animations, gaming etc.
Truly.fm is my website portfolio!
Although I always invite opportunity, I specialise in creating poetry, narrating stories and guiding listeners through meditation. Come inside from the outside world to get cosy. Enjoy your fresh cuppa whilst I read you a poem…
Listen to love. Love to listen.
